Batuu Day, photos delayed.

Yesterday was our first day at a Disney park! We went to Hollywood Studios so we could do Star Wars!

Unfortunately the uploading photos problem the blog was having means I just finished uploading the photos, and now we’re on our way to Epcot, so you’ll have to wait for the full photo set. 😎

Epcot calls!

Universal Leftovers

Had some trouble with the ‘ol Blog yesterday, so we didn’t get a chance to post these. Here’s a few extra pictures from Universal day before yesterday.

The Hulk, the first coaster Emily and I went on that nobody else was bold (or feeling well) enough for.

The Hulk is fantastic. Fast launch out of the tube on the left there into a barrel-role dive, and then up through the cobra-head loop. I WILL RIDE IT SO MANY TIMES!

The next Emily and Josh only coaster.

Lying on your back with you head slightly down on the straight vertical ascent is slightly uncomfortable. That loop pleases me because there’s a barrel role inside it as well. So fun. Also, it’s a rockin roller coaster, choose your own music. I picked Crystal Method’s Name of the Game. Sadly the ride ended about 3 beats before the final chord, leaving me wanting.

Gringott’s Goblin Bank
I have some technical questions…
We got some tasty ice cream and sat on the stairs in Diagon Alley. It’s SO EMPTY.
Getting ready to head out of Universal

Universality

We’re at lunch at Universal, 2nd day here. We haven’t posted much because we’ve barely stopped moving! Low crowd levels and social distancing means we can get a lot of things done!

Social distancing measures on the trip to Hogwarts.

They’re doing a really good job of setting things up so that people stay offset in lines. And they’re being very good about enforcing masks. We feel pretty good about all that!

Hagrid’s roller coaster adventure!

We were good students. We made it back safely.

Mythos is a nice lunch spot.
Lunch break means Pokémon break.
Fork and Knife grilled Cheese. Because Bevin.

I think Emily and I are gonna do a coaster!

The quarantine-cation begins

Firstly, TSA Pre is awesome. Thanks Global Entry. Even if we didn’t have it though, gliding through security at Love Field would have been simple. I haven’t seen an airport this empty since… Ever? Maybe what one time I was in Las Vegas airport overnight after a missed connection.

Southwest flights are booked at 45%, so there should be plenty of room on the plane. We’re early in the first boarding group, and we’re all carry on. Feeling pretty streamlined!

Prepare yourselves for posts, it’s vaaaaaacation time! We’ll try to get good at expressing ourselves with our eyes since we’ll be wearing masks most of the time. 😎😷

Snek!

Aside

Well, I just saw my first copperhead on the nature trail around our neighborhood… I guess there’s never been a better time to never go outside again.

I promise I’ll get around to posting some of our backlog of posts!

A cloudy winters morn

Ahh, the dark and overcast pleases me. Winter hath arriven indeed.

No, wait, as soon as I step out of the car everything is wrong! It’s 72 degrees at 7:30am, and incredibly humid, feels like Florida!

I do like the fact that we can go out on evening walks and even in our neighborhood there isn’t so much light that you can’t see the stars. So I’m not complaining, but it just keeps freaking me out when the weather around me just isn’t what I’m expecting to feel!

Huh

I got out of bed this morning and walked over to the window. After peeking through the blinds for a moment I said “huh”.

Bevin, still in bed, says “what, is it snowing or something?”

Flurries covering the backyard
The camera doesn’t accurately capture how much snow is in the air. Falling pretty good actually.

Actually yes. Apparently my “huh” communicated how perplexed I was quite clearly, and she tried to guess the most perplexing thing I might see out the window.

The screaming children we can hear were a clue too she says.

As a reminder, it was 70 degrees out yesterday.

Huh.

Omens of Explosions

7:30am on New Years Eve and the fireworks stands are open. (the stands are there year round)

I expect this means it will be an eventful evening.

There is one stand, the largest around, barn really, which is not open. They have sign out front reading “City of Roanoke forced us to close! Stand up to municipal tyranny!”

Perhaps they shall be the Alamo of fireworks and it’ll be an extra exciting evening!

A small problem

It wasn’t until while re-packing my backpack AFTER going through security that I realized my rain jacket isn’t in the bottom of it where it usually is.

I hear it’s a bit damp up PNW way these days. Oh well, not like I’ve never been damp before. 😂
